Traditional Customs are Dying Away

Old  People are vital tools to study History. Photograph by Grace Wakane

In most societies in Papua New Guinea, traditional customs is dying out due to the modernsation. People do not realise the importance of their traditional cultures. Some of the things that people do in the past are not known by the current population. It became the big issue for the future generations.

However, most of the old People have passed away but only few survive. These are the important tooks to get the necessary information how they lived in the past. I have interviewed these two old women in the picture about how they spent their young life. It was quite a interesting but sad to hear such a wonderful lifestyle they spent during their young ages.

During their time, every norms and rules were followed perfectly with obedient. But today rules have changed where everthing is mixed up. People don't care and respect others in the society. These brings  chaos and destruction in the lives of the both old and young people. The things that we should need to do is to be advocate for the majority who can not speak in general public for how to preserve traditional ways of lifestyle.

We must not be selfish, it is our job to get solid references those old people before they perished so that future generation can have a change to study how their great grand parents existed in the Past.

FINALLY MY WARM THANKS GOES TO MY TWO BUBUES FROM SANGURAP, LAWAN SINEA AND MAENDE FOR PROVIDING ME A SOLID EVIDENCE TO RECORD THE ORAL HISTORY...
